Welsh Bands Weekly back issues

Welsh Bands Weekly’s final resting place

Gone, but not forgotten

Today, 1st April 2017, is Welsh Bands Weekly’s twentieth birthday.

For many months I’ve been idly ‘planning’, in a very non-commital way, to mark the occasion by uploading all the back issues and 2001-2008 era online-only articles etc to this domain, which I’ve owned for as long as I can remember and which I’ve never allowed to expire.

Me being me, I let other stuff get in the way, so it didn’t happen.

So here’s a compromise. I’ll upload the back issues now, just so’s I don’t miss the date, and I’ll continue working on the website after that. Until it reaches its full potential as a tribute to something which was – and I say this with no pretence of modesty – absolutely legendary in its time. And at that point Welsh Bands Weekly can be put to bed properly.

I did of course build a website for WBW around 2007/2008, but frankly it was a pile of steaming poo. I was just venturing into web design and had bugger all idea about standards, CSS, design principles or pretty much anything that was required to build a website. I built it in Dreamweaver, FFS.

But now – well, I do that shit for a living, man. If I can’t build a decent final resting place for WBW now, I never will.

So here it is.

You won’t find much content here today and I haven’t had a chance to bilingualise anything yet, but I promise that will come very soon. Luckily I still have all the old HTML files from the 2007/8 website in both languages, so when it comes to that particular content it’s just a matter of copying and pasting it into WordPress and then there’s the laborious task of uploading images etc.

Eventually I plan to upload, in HTML so it’s searchable and findable, the interviews and features from all the original printed magazines. It’ll take a while to type it all out (I don’t have the original electronic files any more) but it’ll certainly beat grainy scans in PDFs.

Anyway. Do bear with. It’s on its way. For now, please just join me in wishing WBW a happy 20th birthday and enjoy the back issues. And enjoy this lovely message from Eggsy of Goldie Lookin’ Chain. Click the ‘play’ button and smile 🙂

Diolch,

Debs 🙂
